Lodge #54 Receives Grants
9/14/11
Lima Lodge is the recipient of two grants offered by Grand Lodge. Exalted Ruler Jean Zink was quick to apply for these grants as only 500 were made available to all Lodges in the country. Lima Lodge received both Promise and Gratitude Grants. Promise Grant are offered to Lodges to encourage Elks to teach, support and interact
with youth.
Lima Lodge used this opportunity to serve the community and show all the great things that our Lodge does for the community. Lima Lodge received a $1000.00 Promise Grant and used the funds to sponsor the Western Ohio Aquatic Swim meet held at the Wapakoneta swimming pool on July 15 & 16. The Lodge presented winning individuals and teams with ribbons, medallions and trophies during this two day event. Eight teams made up of over 600 young people participated. Paul Kreher, Harry Hooks and ER Jean were there to present awards. The Lodge's Flag Day Flags and Stand made a
patriotic back drop when the winners took their places on the first,
second and third place stands to receive their awards.
Lima Lodge will use the $2000.00 Gratitude Grant to sponsor the Lima Symphony Orchestra's Young Peoples Concert. Over 3200 elementary and middle school students attend this concert presented during the 2011-2012 school year. Lima Lodge has partnered with the Lima Symphony Orchestra in fund raising events such as the community chicken BBQ held in July. At the concert young people are introduced
to various musical instruments and how an orchestra is organized and conducted. Instruments from all sections of the orchestra are highlighted and discussed to help students to become familiar their sounds and to be able to recognize them.
